UPDATE from Feb 3rd 2018 meeting of SUB REGIONAL Fire Service
POST on FACEBOOK
Yahk-Kingsgate Fire department
Those of you that were at the Yahk town meeting to talk about the Fire Department may remember one of the Departments gripes was that we are not consulted by the RDCK or our Regional Director Tanya Wall when it comes to decisions affecting us all. I'm sure you remember that we were assured that it would improve.
One of the items for discussion was the new dispatch system by which we are called out to incidents. The department made it clear that we wished to stay on the same dispatch as the rest of the RDCK and not the one Creston Fire was demanding. RDCK Chief Bellerby listened to us and made arrangements for us to go with Kelowna as we requested.
We have just found out today(April 9th) that the RDCK Board voted on March 15th not to do that and force us to use the same one as Creston. Your Fire Department was not informed of this even though our Area B Director knew about this.
This was after we have furnished all the information to Kelowna to ensure a smooth transition for fire calls and medical calls etc.
As you can imagine your department is not happy about this and once again we have been kept in the dark about decisions affecting us. We have emailed RDCK CAO Stuart Horn and Area B Director Tanya Wall to voice our opinion.
We were very impressed with the support the town displayed at that recent meeting so if you feel as we do that we are being left out of decision making once again please feel free to contact Stuart Horn or Tanya Wall.
You may remember too that the system they are forcing us into is more expensive(tax dollars).
Apologies for such a long post.
Additional information:
Director Wall did not contact us at any point before or even after a vote on this at RDCK March 15th 2018. We will find out precisely what the motion and subsequent vote was. We do know has we were included in the break away group of Creston, Canyon Lister, and Wyndell. The break away groups choice of dispatch would be more expensive and needs two lines. We are part of the RDCK not a Sub-Regional Fire Service. It makes sense to continue with the larger group for not only economics/economy of scale but better communications for the total region. This HAS been discussed!
YK Fire Chief Tom Hollis and Deputy Chief Bill Whitehouse will be meeting with director Wall, Regional Fire Chief and CAO Stuart Horn RDCK for an explanation of how something like this could happen.
Please if you have any concerns or questions contact
Bill Whitehouse
or
Area B Director Tanya Wall
